Emily Carr, VCC and Douglas Students – First Out the Gate for U-Pass BC
VANCOUVER –Emily Carr University, Vancouver Community College and Douglas College students’ unions are proud to announce they are the first to vote on the much anticipated U-Pass BC!
The Emily Carr Students’ Union just completed a successful U-Pass Referendum with over 98% of students voting “Yes” to the new program. “As the first group of students to vote on the U-Pass our results are a strong sign of how much students support the U-Pass program.” Said Samantha Lefort, Emily Carr Students’ Union.
“The U-Pass BC is a big part of the emerging transit generation. Vancouver Community College students are excited to finally be voting for a U-Pass.” Said Nimmi Takkar, Chairperson of the Canadian Federation of Students. “Students are thrilled that Minister Bond has made the U-Pass a top priority. Today’s announcement could not have happened without her support.”
The U-Pass referendum at Vancouver Community College will begin on Monday, November 8.
The Douglas Students’ Union will be calling a U-Pass referendum within the next couple of days.
On June 9, 2010 the Province announced Canada’s first standardised U-Pass Program for post-secondary students. The new program will give Metro Vancouver students access to a $30/month U-Pass, saving them over $50 per month and thousands of dollars over the course of their studies.

Over 100,000 Metro Vancouver students still pay up to triple to ride the bus. The more people that sign up to our Group,
the more momentum we will have to win this campaign.
